Hurricane Milton is plowing across Florida today after making landfall last night near Siesta Key in Sarasota County as a Category 3 storm with 120 mph winds. In central Florida, the winds of a still-powerful Category 1 Hurricane, dubbed “Milton,” are much stronger than the previous day and are moving through rain, flooding, and even tornadoes. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned residents that Florida’s west coast should be prepared for a historic storm surge.

A number of states are accusing TikTok of damaging teen mental health because it’s designed to keep young people engaged. The attorneys general want TikTok to change features that they say are harmful to teens. The suits also request that courts impose financial penalties on the company.

NPR’s Leila Fadel: Telling Them How to Vote When the Last Presidential Election Was Stolved

The lead pipes in nine million homes need to be removed within 10 years, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. There is no safe amount of lead in drinking water and its consumption is harmful to children according to the EPA administrator. The water crisis in Flint raised questions about lead levels in the water. Some locations have changed out their pipes for copper ones.

NPR is visiting six key swing states that will likely decide this year’s historic election. Morning Edition is in Michigan to talk to voters about what matters to them and how that will affect their vote.

Many people are convinced that the last presidential election was stolen, even though Americans have begun voting. A small community just outside of Detroit was visited by NPR’s Leila Fadel. At the meeting of America First, she asked if people thought the election would be fair. Everyone except three said no because they didn’t have trust in the process. Despite their doubts, they all indicated that they would still be voting. The next morning, Fadel visited a civics class where a voting demonstration took place. She spoke with election workers about their feelings of safety going into this election. Here is what they all had to say as they voiced their concerns.

Voice in the Wild: The Impact of War on Marjayun, Tanzania’s e-waste processing site Agbogbloshie

For years, Agbogbloshie was one of Africa’s largest e-waste processing sites, receiving 15,000 tons of discarded electronics like phones and computers each year. Many media outlets portrayed the site as being an environmental and public health disaster with toxic chemicals entering the water and poisoning the air. But that’s not the whole story. The goal of the project is to capture both the positive and the negative aspects of e-waste.

Hamilton and Hadestown are shows that have helped increase the number of young people who love musical theater. A vocal coach may be of assistance to students who want to perform in these shows. Amy Menas, a voice coach for child stars and kids with dreams of stardom, established her studio in Wichita in 2012 and has worked with hundreds of students since then. She keeps track of her students by marking their performance locations on a map.

The sounds of war have been heard for almost two weeks in Marjayun, a town on the Lebanon’s border with Israel. Israel says its incursion across the border is limited. More than 2,180 people have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli warplanes.
