Jimmy Carter will be spending his last night at home with his family and receive end of life care instead of continuing to go to the hospital. The statement said that he has the support of his family and medical team.

Jason Carter, a onetime Democratic state senator in Georgia and the former president’s grandson, said he visited Friday with his grandparents and that “they are at peace and – as always – their home is full of love.”

Jimmy Carter, who turned 98 last year, became the oldest living US president in history after the passing of George H.W. Bush, who died in late 2018 at 94. Since the outbreak of coronaviruses in the nation, the 39th president has kept a low profile but still speaks out about the dangers of democracy around the world.

Carter underwent surgery to remove pressure on his brain after having a series of health scares in 2019. His health woes forced him to give up his decadeslong tradition of teaching Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.

Carter was a peanut farmer and US Navy lieutenant before going into politics. The Democrat became the governor of Georgia and then the president of the United States.

Human rights are championed by the former president. His brokering of the Camp David Accords in 1978 with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin remains central to his legacy.

In his post-presidency years, Carter founded The Carter Center along with his wife, Rosalynn, in hopes of advancing world peace and health. The center has worked to advance democracy by monitoring foreign elections and reducing diseases in developing countries over the years.

President Joe Biden, a fellow Democrat and longtime admirer of Carter, has been advised of the former president’s declining health and his decision to seek hospice care, an official told CNN. Biden is staying in close contact with the Carter family and the former president’s close circle of advisers.

In 2018, Carter said he received a briefing on North Korea and said he’d be willing to travel to the country on the Trump administration’s behalf. He spoke with Trump over the phone in April and wrote a letter to him.

Jimmy Carter: Bringing Out the Bad: Reflections on a Democrat Who Came Through Beschloss’s First Year in Office (after Ben Beschloss)

Politicians, celebrities, organizations and more have been heaping praise on the one-term Democrat who continued leading a life of public service long after he left the White House.

Jon Stewart said that Jimmy Carter is one of the loveliest people he has ever had the honor of meeting. “He’s the best of us.”

Carter was photographed in the Oval Office with Vice President Joe Biden during Beschloss’ presidency, as well as on social media over the weekend.

Annette Gordon-Reed was too young to cast her ballot for Carter, but she supported his campaign because of her work with the group Youth for Carter.

I went door-to-door and made calls. Thrilled when he won. He was aware of his cabinet and watched his press conferences. Gordon-Reed noted that he was Devastated when he lost.

Living With Jimmy Carter: A Prayer for the End of Life for a Post-Hopf-Caregiver President and His Families

“All of us at Habitat for Humanity are lifting up President and Mrs. Carter in prayer as he enters hospice care. We pray for him and his family.

Carter and his wife were both avid birders, and the hobby began after the couple went toTanzania in 1988, he said.

The magazine BirdWatching said it was “wishing peace and love to President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, who have been avid birdwatchers since the late 1980s.”

The church where Jimmy Carter taught Sunday school for decades marked his poignant absence this weekend as the former president receives end-of-life care.

The 39th president has kept a low public profile in the past due to the Covid-19 disease, but has continued to speak out about the risks of democracy around the world.
